For the last 20 years, the Berkshire Food Project has been providing free meals tothe members of the Northern Berkshire Community. We would not have been ableto provide this service without the continued support of the First Congregational Church, our home.

A special thanks goes to Scott Bailey and Christopher Caproni for once againproducing two benefit concerts in which the proceeds went directly to providingmeals to members of our community.

As in past years, we continue to work very hard to keep our agency financially sound. We requested funds from Mazon, A Jewish Response to Hunger, ProjectBread, Share the Bounty, The Makepeace Bequest, St. Johns of Williamstown,The Hardman Fund, The United Way, FEMA and the North Adams Human ServiceCommission.  Along with these funds, a heartfelt thanks goes to those of you whosupported us either financially or with food items that we use to stock our pantry. Asalways, your donations helped provide over 16,000 meals served from the dininghall here at The First Congregational Church of North Adams.

In the year ahead, we have added a few new changes. The Berkshire Food Project has received a grant from Project Bread to be the new site for online food stamp applications.  It seems a natural fit for us to provide this service to the clients we see each week who are food insecure. Along with this new service, the BFP, will be working on a new campaign called “Target Hunger.”  This campaignhopes to reduce hunger in the Northern Berkshire by 10% within the next four years. We will be working under the direction of Helen Harrison from the Food Bank ofWestern MA.

In ending, on behalf of all the folks we serve, a heartfelt thanks to our crew of Volunteers, many of whom have been here longer than me,  and to the Board of Directors, your dedication is immeasurable.

I look forward to working with all of you during this up coming year.

Respectfully,

Valerie Schwarz
Executive Director.
