Snap Errors

Massachusetts is now losing over $12M per month in federal nutrition dollars (100K drop in participation of individuals since end of 2013) largely as a result of the extreme error-filled data matching and impenetrable "modernization" of its systems. The SNAP caseload is dropping at a faster rate than the national average and the state unemployment rate.

Thousands of SNAP clients are being automatically denied or terminated from SNAP benefits. Food pantries and food banks are reporting a spike in emergency food demands from families whose SNAP benefits have suddenly stopped. Local schools have reported to area food pantries a decline in their "direct certification rates" for free school meals (families on SNAP are "directly certified.)  Community organizations report that families who try to get back on SNAP are seeing reapplications denied and are unable to get through the DTA Assistance Line.
